The Annual Fall Celebration celebrates the birthday of C. Bernard Jackson and the legacy of the Los Inner City Cultural Center (LAICCC), which continues to this day. The November 2023 event featured the first public reading of a soon to be published anthology entitled “Intimate Stories” read by members of the Longwood Writers Workshop. The workshop members included Charles Floyd Johnson (Executive Producer, “NCIS”, “JAG” “Tails”), Denise Nicholas (“Room 222”, “In the Heat of the Night and Hattie Winston (“Becker”, “Rugrats”). The legacy, recognition and celebratory acknowledgements included The Inner City Essence Award presented to Duane “Chief Yellow Feather” Shepard, Sr, (“Brother Malcolm: Reminiscences of a Revolutionary”, “General Hospital”); Special Recognition given to the 2023 C. Bernard Jackson UCLA Bridge Builders Award Winner Glynn Turman (“Cooley High”, “A Rasin in the Sun”) and “graduates” of the first Professional Artist Cohort of the Entertainment Community Fund formerly known as the Actors Fund, outside of New York, were introduced. The graduates were JD Hall, L. Martina Young, Gloria Calomee and Christine Avila. The presentations were a virtual treasure of shared stories, experiences and reflections of the art, cultural history and legacy of the presenters and the honorees. The DEI Group were supporters and sponsors of the event.
